Background
What are Walmart’s giving Programs?
This project originated from the initial phase of exploring Walmart Foundation’s Giving Ecosystem. Subsequent phases identified inefficiencies and disjointed user experiences across 8+ Giving programs for Walmart associates and non-profit organizations.
The discoverability and participation of Walmart’s Giving programs became the priority focus for the next phase of work, so I joined the project with 6 designers. When I joined, I was to focus on one program - Volunteer Associate Program (VAP).
Team Objective
The team and I set to uncover insights on how Walmart associates and non-profit organizations discover and engage with Walmart’s Giving programs.
As a result, I was able to provide deeper understanding of the discoverability of Walmart’s Volunteering Associate Program and provide recommendations that will direct the strategic planning and refinements of Walmart Foundation’s offerings.
Process
Filling in knowledge gaps
Six distinct user roles participated in the Giving programs, each encountering unique experiences and engagement approaches. However, gaps in understanding these roles and their interactions with the programs hindered our ability to efficiently support Walmart associates and non-profit organizations in expediting assistance for their causes.
Over a span of three weeks, I leveraged insights from our team's work of 26 user interviews and 78 surveys. I worked on a comprehensive current state audit and creating a future state. This effort aimed to deepen our understanding of how users discover and engage with the
Giving programs, evaluate their experiences, and gauge awareness, engagement, and participation, particularly in volunteering.
Outcomes
Turning insights into actionable items
-
My team and I created a presentation deck to share key insights, highlighting pain points and opportunities identified through our research. We also established baseline metrics to gauge users' current awareness and participation in the Giving programs, along with recommendations for improvement.

-
As a result, we facilitated timely, strategic discussions on enhancing the discoverability, awareness, and user experience of the Giving programs for FY2025.
Additionally, for my contribution on this project, I was recognized and awarded with a prestigious Walmart's Rookie of the Year Award 2023 for being a proactive, resourceful problem solver, who consistently leads her work with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn and grow her professional skillsets.
